Fullerton, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton tied their school record with their seventh consecutive win as they used 13 kills from senior Erin Saddler to defeat visiting UC Riverside, 25-14, 25-16, 26-24, in a Big West Conference volleyball match Saturday night in Titan Gym.
The Titans continue their hold on first place in the Big West by one match with two remaining on the year. The Titans improve to a 24-5 and win their 20th over their last 22 matches. The Titans also improve their school record with another conference victory, jumping to 12-2 in league action. UC Riverside was unable to capture their first Big West victory and fall to 2-28 overall and 0-14 in league.
The Titans honored three seniors on Saturday night playing the final home matches of their career. Saddler led all players in the kills department, while seniors Cami Croteau and Genie Francisco finished 1 and 2 in the dig department. Croteau had a match-high 20 while Francisco scooped up 12. Croteau is now just 20 digs shy of the Big West Conference career record and now has 2,112 digs in her career.
Fullerton hit .360 on the night, its second-best attack percentage of the year. Kayla Neto and Torrie Brown contributed to the elevated mark as they each had nine kills and hit .471 and .615, respectively.
Gabrielle Dewberry was strong at the line, notching a career-best four service aces in the win.
Amanda Vialpando led the Highlanders offensively, picking up 9 kills while hitting .286. Riverside hit .193 as a squad. Katie Meyers had 25 assists and 10 digs to pick up the night's only double-double.
Neto had four blocks to lead all players, while setter Andrea Ragan (35 assists) also logged 3.
The Titans finish up the 2010 regular season next weekend on the road. They will hit up UC Irvine next Friday night and they wrap things up in Northridge as they take on the Matadors of CSUN. Both matches begin at 7 p.m.
