Fullerton, Calif. - Brittany Moore blasted a career-high 30-kills in Cal State Fullerton's 3-2 win over UC Riverside in a Big West Conference volleyball match Friday night at Titan Gym.
The 30-22, 28-30, 27-30, 30-21, 15-11 win evens the Titans overall record at 9-9, and boost their league record to 4-3. Riverside drops to 5-12, 1-5.
Moore, who hit .321, committed just four errors in 81 opportunities, and becomes the first person in the Big West to reach the 30-kill mark. Alex Wolnisty also added 18 kills in helping setter Julie Geissert set her career-high in assists with 69. Moore's performance is the first 30-kill mark set since Megan Sabo's 35-kill night on Sept. 16, 2000 against TCU.
Four Highlanders posted double digits in kills led by Dominique Cowling's 16.
The Titans came out strong hitting .312 to the Highlander's .059 to take game one. But UCR came back to life taking games two and three by holding them to just a .136 and .106 attack percentage, respectively behind nine kills by Kelly Fink who eventually finished with 14.
The Titans tied it up at two games apiece, and In the fifth, the Riverside was just four points away from, but Moore collected four kills over the last five points including the match-winner for her 30th.
Despite high offensive numbers for Fullerton, Riverside led defensively at the net led by the blocking of Angie Mitchell. Mitchell tallied 11 blocks, with three of them coming as solos. Wolnisty led for Fullerton with six total blocks and two solos. Riverside out-blocked Fullerton as a team 14.0-10.0.
In the back court, The Titans out-dug the Highlanders 105-91 and had four individuals with 15-or-more digs led by Genie Francisco with 25. Mitchell recorded 20 for Riverside.
Fullerton will now return to action next Friday and Saturday nights on the road as they head to UC Davis and Pacific for a pair of 7 p.m. starts.
