Fullerton, Calif. - Torrie Brown and Erin Saddler provided the offensive pop as Cal State Fullerton (14-4, 3-1) swept visiting Pacific (10-6, 3-2) Friday night in Big West Conference volleyball action in Titan Gym.
The Titans took care of the Tigers 25-19, 25-16, 25-22 and notched their 13th sweep of the season, and 10th win in their last 11 matches. The Tigers see their 3-match winning streak come to an end, and lose to the Titans for the 9th time in their last 12 meetings. Prior to 2004, Pacific led the all-time series 41-0.
Both teams came into the week receiving votes in the latest AVCA Top 25 coaches poll.
Pacific's Svenja Engelhardt led all players with 14 kills on the night, but the Tigers combined to hit just .073 as a team, and never hitting above .147 in any of the three sets.
Brown led the way for the Titans, who hit .223 as a group. The junior hitter had 13 kills and a pair of blocks to lead the way for the Titans in the points column (14.5). The reigning Big West Player of the Week, Saddler, had 12 kills, 9 digs and block, totaling 14.0 points.
The Titans trailed briefly in all three set, but battled back to take control midway through each frame. Fullerton edged Pacific in every statistical category including, kills (42-31), assists (37-29), digs (51-47) and blocks (7.0-6.0), but most of the individual leaders went in favor of Pacific.
Rebekah Torres had 16 digs for Pacific and teammate Jennifer Sanders had 5 blocks to pace the floor. Fullerton's Cami Croteau and Genie Francisco each finished with 11 digs each, while Leah Maurer worked the net, stuffing four blocks including two solos.
The Titans will face UC Davis on Saturday night at 7 p.m. The Aggies will come to Titan Gym with a tie for the best conference record at 4-1. They dropped their first league match Friday night, 3-0, to Long Beach State and are now tied with Cal Poly. The Aggies beat UC Riverside 3-1.
