For just the second time in 2006, the Cal State Fullerton Volleyball team lost, dropping a four-game match to Cal State Northridge, 3-1 (30-26, 19-30, 28-30, 24-30), Saturday night at The Matadome .
The Titans fell to 12-2 overall and 1-1 in Big West Conference play. Northridge improves to 8-4, 2-0. Cal State Fullerton's longest winning streak ever ends at seven games with the loss.
The Matadors held the Titans to their lowest attack percentage of the year at .101 with Amanda Pfielschiefter's .381 keeping it above .100. Pfielschiefeter and Brittany Moore each collected 10 kills apiece to lead the Titans offense.
Harmony Burdine led all players with 18 kills, and led a trio of Matadors with 10-or-more kills. She also collected 13 digs, four service aces and three block assists to keep CSUN unbeaten in Big West play.
Despite eight blocks (2 solos) by Darla Donaldson, Fullerton out-blocked Northridge 12-11 as a team. Brittany Moore had six stuffs (1 solo), to lead the team with Julie Geissert adding five block assists as well.
If there was a dominant aspect of the game for either team it was the serving game where Northridge tallied 14 aces to Fullerton's three in the four-game match. Conference serving leader Fullerton was stymied by Burdine and Donaldson who each had four and Angela Hupp who added three of her own.
Vanessa Vella dug 21 attack attempts, moving her to 1309 career digs, leaving her just 84 away from tying the school's career record set by Stephanie Scofield from 1988-91.
Fullerton ends its brief two-game road trip and will come home for a pair on Sept. 28 and 29. UC Riverside will be in town Thursday night before a Friday night non-conference match-up with UC Davis on Friday. Both matches will begin at 7 p.m.
