Fullerton, Calif. - Brittany Moore and Alex Wolnisty combined for 23 kills and five blocks as the Cal State Fullerton volleyball team swept UC Davis, 3-0, on opening night of Big West Conference play Friday night at Titan Gym.
The Titans jumped a game above .500 of the second time this season, improving to 6-5 overall and 1-0 in league action with the 30-16, 30-26, 30-22 win. Davis dropped its second straight Big West match and fell to 3-10, 0-2 on the year.
Wolnisty tied Davis' Kayla Varney for the match high in kills with 13, but led all players with a .375 attack percentage, committing just four errors in 24 chances. Moore was matched by the Aggies' Erin Turner with 12 kills, but added nine digs and 3 block assists.
The Titans out-hit the Aggies in all three games, posting a match-high .394 mark in the third and final game, but it was Davis's 44 errors that contributed tho their downfall. UC Davis hit just .085 on the night, including 30 attack errors, while Fullerton finished with an overall attack percentage of .288 with just 13 errors.
Erin Saddler contributed 2 of Fullerton's four services aces on the night to lead all players. Saddler's four block also led all players as the Titans went on to out-block the Aggies 7-3 as a team.
Fullerton returns to the floor Saturday night, taking on the visiting Pacific Tigers in another Big West Conference match. The Titans have beat the Tigers in three of their last four meetings dating back to 2005. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m at Titan Gym.
Notes: Cal State Fullerton has now won its last three conference openers after a 0-25 drought dating back to 1980...Friday night's match marked the first time in the last four matches that Brittany Moore failed to reach the 20 kill and 10 dig mark.
