Titans Improve to 10-1 with 3-1 win over Penn

Fullerton, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton matched its longest winning streak of the season taking the match versus Penn, 3-1, Saturday afternoon in Match 3 of the Holiday Inn Buena Park Fullerton Classic at Titan Gym. The Titans improve to 2-0 in the tourney, while Penn drops to 0-2.
The 30-20, 30-21, 28-30, 30-28 victory was the Titans' fifth match victory in a row to bolster their 2006 record to 10-1. The loss in game three snapped a 14-game winning streak their longest streak of the season. Penn fell to 0-5.
All five Fullerton starter posted double-digits in kills with Breanna Trudeau leading all players with 16. Danielle Hitzeman (15), Amanda Pfielschiefter (13), Deven Bukoski (13) and Brittany Moore (12) also contributed to the Titan attack, as Fullerton out-killed the Quakers 73-57 (.202-.180).
Setter Julie Geissert collected her season best 59 assists adding 3 service aces to share the match lead. The Titans' Cari Baley made the most of her short time in the game also posting 3 service aces.
Moore, Pfielschiefter and Trudeau each took part in 3 blocks with the two former each collecting two solos.
Vanessa Vella (23) and Hitzeman (29) paced the Titans in digs with Hitzeman capturing a tie for the ninth-best dig performance by any Titan in the programs history. She ties Kim Levey, who dug 29 attacks in 2001. Three other Titans also had double-digits in digs.a
Penn out-blocked the Titans as a team 9-7 as Natalie Drucker led all players with five.
The Titans will face San Diego State at 7:30 in the championship game of the tournament. The Quakers will come back and face Lipscomb at 4:30.
San Diego State defeated Lipscomb 3-0 (30-23, 30-16, 30-25) to even its season record at 6-6. The Lady Bisons fall to 3-9.
Melanie Greene led all players with 16 kills for the Aztecs, hitting .538 on the match.
The Aztecs also dominated at the net, out-blocking the Lady Bison 7-4. Audra Dent had 5 stuffs, with teammate Hailey Hellwig right behind her with four block assists.
Jessica Turner paced Lipscomb with 11 kills.
SDSU's libero Amie Cordeiro led all players with 17 digs, while Lindsey Rutherford adding 15 for the opposition.
San Diego State, 2-0 in the tournament, will go on to face Fullerton in the championship game at 7:00 p.m.
Lipscomb will return to the floor at 4:30 p.m. to take on Penn in each team's final match of the tournament. Both squads are 0-2.
