Fullerton, Calif. - Behind Brittany Moore's 14 kills and five block assists, Cal State Fullerton swept Lipscomb, 3-0 (30-18, 31-29, 30-13) in Game two of the Holiday Inn Buena Park Fullerton Classic Friday evening at Titan Gym.
The Titans continued their best-ever start to a season improving to 9-1. The Titans have now won 12 games in a row over the last four matches. Lipscomb falls to 3-8 on the year.
Moore hit .458 on the night to lead all players in the hitting department. Her kills and block totals were also game-highs. Deven Bukoski (8 kills) and Amanda Pfielschiefter (6 kills) also added to the Titan air assault that saw Fullerton out-kill the Lady Bisons 44-30.
No Lady Bison collected more than seven kills on the night, as Lindsey Rutherford and Jessica Turner split 14 kills. Lipscomb hit .038 on the match.
The Titans also dominated at the line, posing 10 service aces including a career-high six from senior Danielle Hitzeman. Rutherford led for the Lady Bison, finding the floor three times in the losing effort.
Fullerton also dominated at the net, out-blocking Lipscomb 7-4 as a team. Setters Julie Geissert and Jenna Carney each added a pair of block assists to help out more at the net. Breanna Trudeau provided the Titans' only solo block.
Vanessa Vella posted a team-best 15 digs defensively, but was out-done by Lipscomb's defensive specialist Ann Mullins who thwarted 17 kill attempts.
With a win on Saturday, Fullerton will have a just their tenth 10-win seaon in the program's 30-year history. The Titans will have two shots at it tomorrow, as they host the Penn Quakers at 10 a.m and the San Diego State Aztecs at 7:30 p.m. Both games will be at TItna Gym.
Game One Results: San Diego State made quick work of Penn, sweeping the Quakers 3-0, in the opening game of the 2006 Holiday Inn Buena Park Fullerton Classic Friday afternoon.
San Diego State improved to 5-6 with the 30-14, 30,-23, 30-16 victory, while Penn remained winless at 0-4.
Three Aztecs had 12-or-more kills, led by hitter Melanie Greene, who hit .481 on the match. She also added nine digs and a pair of block assist in the win. Lindsey Mahan (13 kills, .524) and Audra Dent (12 kills, .414) added to the effort, contributing to the team's .361 attack percentage.
Katherine Turner led for the Quakers, posting eight kills to pace Penn.
