Las Vegas - Twelve kills apiece from Leah Maurer and Torrie Brown guided the Cal State Fullerton volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-22) sweep of Eastern Kentucky in Match 3 of the UNLV Invitational at the Cox Pavilion Saturday morning.
The Titans evened their record at 1-1 in the tournament and 5-3 overall with their fourth sweep of an opponent in their last five matches. Eastern Kentucky continued its rough start to the 2010 season, dropping to 1-7 and 0-2 in tournament action.
Maurer, playing on the same court she competed on for two seasons with UNLV, was three kills off her career high, hit .500 for the match and tallied a match-high 5 blocks (4 assists and a solo) in the win. She will face her former teammates in the tournament finale when the Titans take on the hosting Rebels at 7 p.m.
The Colonels were led offensively by Ashley Edmond who had 7 kills, but hit just -.065 overall.
Defensively, the Titans out-dug (45 to 41) the Colonels and out-blocked them 8.5 to 3.0. EKU's Abby O'Conner had a match-high 18 digs, while CSF's libero Cami Croteau scooped 15 attacks. Along with Maurer, Fullerton's Jennifer Edmond added 4 block assists while Saddler had 2 block assists and a solo.
The Titans will have the rest of the afternoon off before coming back this evening to take on UNLV.
