Tucson, Ariz. - Sophomore Bre Moreland and junior Kayla Neto combined for 21 kills as Cal State Fullerton (2-2) defeated Eastern Washington (2-3), 3-0, in the second match of the Wildcat Invitational at Arizona's McKale Center Friday afternoon.
The Titans are winners of two in a row and improve to 4-2 all-time against the Eagles dating back to 1984.
Neto tallied a game-high 11 kills and stuffed a team-high two blocks in the 25-20, 25-16, 25-20, victory. Moreland added a career-high 10 kills and scooped up 10 Eagle attack attempts for her first career double-double. Senior Leah Maurer also posted nine kills and hit .368 while also serving up a pair of aces from the line.
Freshman Amanda Yamate had 16 digs for Fullerton to lead all players.
Eastern Washington's Shelby Puckett (8 kills) and Cora Kellerman (9 kills) paced the Eagles offensive attack. Fullerton out-hit Eastern Washington .181 to .121 on the match.
The Eagles did, however, dominate at the net, out-blocking the Titans 10.5 to 2.0. Chenoa Rossi-Childress led all players with five block assists. Puckett added four of her own.
The Titans will face the host Wildcats in the 7 p.m. match on Friday night and will take on Presbyterian Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m.
