Fullerton, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton (2-2) downed Bowling Green (2-3), 3-0 (30-27, 32-30, 30-25), behind 18 kils by junior hitter Brittany Moore in both team's first match of the Holiday Inn Buena Park Titan Classic held at Titan Gym Friday night.
Moore led all players in kills and boasted a match high .405 attack percentage to go with her 10 digs and 4 blocks in the winning effort. Alex Wolnisty and Sarah Day each contributed in double digits in kills, but it was Moore who got the majority of the work.
In all three matches, the Titans jumped out to substantial leads, but allowed the Falcons to rally back and tie the game each time. BGSU' s leading scorer Madeline Means posted 10 kills, seven digs and a pair of blocks on the night. Chelsey Meeks was the defensive standout for the Falcons, with 23 digs.
Titan senior Julie Geissert amassed a season-season high 45 assists to go along with a tie for the most Titan digs with 10. Geissert, Wolnisty and Erin Saddler each added a pair of blocks as the Titans out-blocked the Falcons 7-2 as a team.
The Titans will return to the court on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and will face Stony Brook who lost their opening game of the tourney in Friday's first match with Portland State.
IN THE EARLIER GAME: Despite 20 kills from Stony Brook's (2-3) Jackie Ahlers, Portland State swept the Seawolves in three straight to open the Classic Friday afternoon. A trio of Vikings posted 10-or-more kills, led by Marija Vojnovic with 13. Michelle Segun had a seven-block effort at the net to lead all players as Portland improved to 4-0 on the year.
