Long Beach, Calif. - Freshman Alex Wolnisty blasted 12 kills and added four blocks as the Cal State Fullerton volleyball team pounded on Alabama State (30-6, 30-9, 30-17) in a 3-0 sweep to earn their second victory of the Long Beach State Tournament Saturday night at the Pyramid.
With the victory, the Titans jump out to a 2-0 record to start a season for the fourth time since 2000. Alabama State drops to 0-3 on the young season.
The Titan offense was dominant over the Hornets, posting a .516 attack percentage throughout the match, and marks of .586 and .654 in the first and second games, respectively. The Hornets, who had just 16 kill the entire match, also had 16 hitting errors to give them a .000 attack percentage on the night.
Fullerton, was dominant at the net, out-blocking ASU 6-2, with Wolnisty leading all players with three block assists and a solo to her credit. The freshman's 12 kills led all players, while hitting .706.
Sophomore Brittany Moore's air assault was spot on, firing 10 kills in as many opportunities for a perfect 1.000 attack percentage. Moore also added a block assist.
Areion Trinity, the Hornet's most productive player, posted just seven kills in the losing effort.
After posting 16 service erros the night before, Cal State Fullerton righted the ship with 15 aces against Alabama State, headed by setter Julie Geisset who's serves found the floor four times. Breanna Trudeau and Mounia Nihipali each added three in the runaway victory for the Titans.
