Fullerton Returns to Titan Gym on Two-Match Win Streak

Cal State Fullerton brings a two-match winning streak back to Titan Gym on Thursday as CSF hosts UC Irvine (7 p.m., Thursday) and Long Beach State (7 p.m., Saturday) this week.

GAMEDAY PROMOTIONS
The Titans return to Titan Gym at 7 p.m., Thursday to host UC Irvine. It will be High School night at Titan Gym, as high school volleyball teams can be admitted free. Please contact the ticket office at (657) 278-CSUF before attending for restrictions.

On Saturday, CSF will host Long Beach State at 7 p.m. on Rivalry Night. Fans that wear orange to the match will receive "Beat the Beach" signs.

UC Irvine enters this week having lost three of its last four matches, and will head to Titan Gym on Thursday with a two-match losing streak. The Anteaters were swept at home last weekend in back-to-back three-set losses to Pacific and UC Davis. Aly Squires is leading UCI with 3.88 kills per set, while Kristin Winkler is averaging 5.06 digs per set.

Inside the Numbers: The Titans have won their last four matches against UC Irvine...the lasttime the Anteaters defeated CSF was a three-set sweep on Nov. 20, 2009 in Irvine...the last time UCI defeated CSF at Titan Gym was a three-game sweep on Nov. 13, 2009...in six career matches (21 sets) against UCI, senior Kayla Neto has averaged 3.75 kills per set, while Gabrielle Dewberry has averaged 4.40 digs per set against UCI in four career matches (15 sets)...UC Irvine's Ella Rosenfeld ranks second in the league averaging 1.24 blocks per set, while Kristin Walker's 5.06 digs per set also rate second in the Big West.

Seniors Andrea Ragan (42 assists, 11 digs) Leah Maurer (13 kills, five blocks), and Jennifer Edmond (11 kills, 12 digs, 3 blocks) led Cal State Fullerton to a 3-1 Big West Conference victory over UC Irvine.

On top of the work produced by the Titan seniors, junior Kayla Neto tied for the match high with 14 kills and added 16 digs to raise the number of Fullerton double-doubles to three on the night. Irvine had a pair of double-double performances from kill leaders Aly Squires (21 digs) and Shaina Olsen (10 digs), who each tallied 14 kills to pace the Anteater offense.

Long Beach State picked up two wins last weekend with a 3-1 win over UC Davis and a sweep of Pacific at Walter Pyramid. The 49ers opened Big West play with wins over Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara before suffering back-to-back losses to Cal State Northridge and Hawai'i.

Inside the Numbers: Cal State Fullerton has lost 59 straight matches to Long Beach State...the Titans' last win over the 49ers was a five-set victory on Oct. 19, 1982 in Fullerton...in six career matches (20 sets) against LBSU, Kayla Neto has averaged 2.50 kills per set, and has been held to a clip of .099...Long Beach State ranks second in the Big West averaging 13.62 kills per set...Alma Serna ranks second in the conference, attacking at a clip of .346.

Haleigh Hamption had 12 kills and hit an impressive .526 to lead Long Beach State to a 3-0 sweep of Cal State Fullerton and helped the 49ers clinch at least a share of the Big West Conference championship. The 49ers were victorious over the Titans for the 59th consecutive time dating back to the 1982 season. 

Fullerton hit just .069 against Long Beach's .296 and was led by Kayla Neto who landed 12 kills. She picked up her team-leading 14th double-double of the year by adding 10 digs in the 18-25, 24-26, 8-25 loss. Fullerton's Gabrielle Dewberry led all players with 15 digs. Long Beach committed less than 20 total errors on the night, holding the upper hand most of the match. 

NOTES FROM LAST WEEK
Leah Best fell one short of matching her career high with 11 kills at UC Riverside, while also attacking at a clip of .556 (11-1-18) for the matchSophomore Julie Consani led CSF with 28 assists at UCR. The native of Newport Beach, Calif., has recorded three of CSF's top-5 assist totals in 2012.

Cal State Fullerton's 1.46 service aces per set ranks second in the Big West...Kayla Neto's 3.94 kills per set rank second in the league, while Bre Moreland's 3.57 average ranks eighth...Julie Consani's 7.68 assists per set rank ninth...three Titans rank in the conference's top-10 for service aces: Bre Moreland (1st; 0.46/s), Kayla Neto (6th, 0.32/s), Gabrielle Dewberry (10th, 0.26/s)...Gabrielle Dewberry's 4.51 digs per set rank fourth in the Big West.

RECORD BREAKERS
Senior Kayla Neto has totaled 1,359 kills during her career at Cal State Fullerton, a number that ranks fifth all-time. She would need to total 20 more kills to pass Megan Sabo's (1998-01) fourth-place mark of 1,378...Neto's 88 career service aces rank ninth all-time...Neto's 51 career solo blocks tie for eighth in Titan all-time history, while her 222 block assists rank sixth...Neto's mark of 273 total blocks rates seventh all-time...In addition, Neto has accumulated 1,609.0 points at CSF, a total that ranks fourth all-time at Fullerton...Neto's 398 sets played ranks eighth all-time. Gabrielle Dewberry's total of 980 digs ranks ninth all-time at CSF. 

A SOLID CAREER
Dating back to Sept. 15, senior Kayla Neto has recorded six consecutive double-double performances. The Clarksburg, Calif., native currently leads the Titans with 272 kills (3.94 k/s) – a mark that also ranks second in the Big West. Her 22 service aces rank sixth in the league as well.
Neto has landed at least 20 kills in four matches to lead the Titans, and on Oct. 1, she earned the third Big West Player of the Week honor of her career after averaging 4.30 kills, 3.70 digs and 1.10 blocks per set in a five-set loss to Pacific and a five-set win at UC Davis.
Neto has totaled 1,359  kills during her career at Cal State Fullerton, a number that ranks fifth all-time, and her career average of 3.41 kills per set ranks fourth at CSF.
Neto's 51 career solo blocks tie for eighth place in Titan all-time history, while her 222 block assists rank sixth. Neto's mark of 273 total blocks rates seventh all-time. In addition, Neto has accumulated 1,609 points at CSF, a total that ranks fourth all-time at Fullerton. Neto has also been a force at the service line as well, and now ranks ninth all-time in Titan history with 88. 

MORELAND EMERGING
Junior Bre Moreland was voted to three all-tournament teams in 2012. The native of Mission Viejo, Calif., is averaging 3.57 kills and 2.80 digs per set. In her last 17 matches, Moreland has posted double-figure kills, and in addition, during CSF's last five matches, Moreland has posted double-doubles.
Moreland has totaled 29 blocks and leads the Titans and the Big West with 32 aces. She is second on the roster with 296.0 points this year. In addition, Moreland has totaled a team-leading 10 double-double matches in 2012.

TAEATAFA TRIUMPHS
Senior Kaylynne Taeatafa was able to return to the court vs. Cal State Northridge on Sept. 21 after missing the 10 previous matches due to injury. In CSF's last five matches, Taeatafa has totaledthree double-doubles (assist/digs), and is averaging 8.09 assists per set. Defensively, she is averaging 2.73 digs per set.

SHOWING THE KID THE ROPES
Junior Leah Best leads the Titans with 68 blocks (0.99 b/s), followed by rookie Holland Crenshaw 62 (0.93 b/s). Best, a 6-foot-6 middle blocker has 13 solo blocks and 55 blocks assists to Crenshaw's six solo blocks and 56 block assists. Best's best performance of the season came against Santa Clara (Sept. 15), when she stuffed her share of nine attack attempts (3 solo, 6 assists). Crenshaw opened some eyes when she had eight block assists against Sacred Heart on Sept. 2.
