SAN DIEGO, CA - Cal State Fullerton sophomore Malorie dela Cruz was the lone Titan to post a victory on Thursday as the women's tennis team completed day one at the ITA West Regionals in San Diego.
In her opening match, dela Cruz defeated UCLA's Megan Lester in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, before falling in the second round to Arizona's Natasha Marks, 6-2, 6-3.
Three other singles players fell in straight sets as freshman Morgan McIntosh lost to San Diego State's Roxanne Ellison (6-2, 6-3), sophomore Tiffany Mai was defeated by UC Irvine's Rebecca Kwan (6-1, 7-6), and freshman Megan Sandford fell to Arizona's Elizabeth Hammond (6-2, 7-5).
Consolation play for singles begins on Friday morning.
In doubles play, the team of dela Cruz and Sandford opened with a loss to Arizona's Marks and Lacey Smith, 8-1, while the duo of Mai and McIntosh earned a bye into the second round, and will compete on Friday morning.
