Cal Poly, Pepperdine Win Titles at Fall Intercollegiates

FULLERTON, CA - Cal Poly's Brittany Blalock upset two of the tournament's top four seeds to claim the singles crown while the top-seeded doubles duo of Tania Rice and Anete Bandere took home the doubles title in Sunday's final day of play at the 2006 Cal State Fullerton Fall Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament in Fullerton, Calif.
In one of the day's two semifinal matches, Blalock upset top-seeded Katy Williams of Long Beach State in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5, to advance to the championship where she then defeated Pepperdine's Jill Braverman, the tournament's No. 4 seed, in straight sets, 6-1, 7-6, to claim the title.
Braverman defeated Long Beach State's Jessica Weeks, 6-2, 6-2, to advance to the championship.
In doubles play, Rice and Bandere battled past the USC doubles duo of Amber Harper and Katcha Decker-Sadowski, 8-5, to advance to the championship where they met Silvia Gutierrez and Kanykey Koichumanova of Cal State Northridge.
The Pepperdine tandem took home the title with an 8-5 victory.
