Women's Tennis Blanks Southern Utah, 7-0

March 5, 2012

FULLERTON, CA - The Cal State Fullerton women's tennis team posted its first shutout victory of the season on Sunday afternoon, sweeping past visiting Southern Utah, 7-0, at the Titan Tennis Courts in Fullerton.

The win gave the Titans a 4-3 finish in their seven-match homestand and evened their overall record at 4-4 this season. The Thunderbirds fell to 1-2 with the loss.

Wins at the top two doubles spots by the teams of Tiffany Mai and Morgan McIntosh at No. 1 and Monica Rodriguez and Kalika Slevcove at No. 2 gave Fullerton the early lead in the match and the Titans posted a clean sweep when Southern Utah, which traveled only five players, was forced to default the No. 3 doubles contest.

Fullerton then swept through the top five matches in singles play in straight sets, including a 6-1, 6-1, win by Slevcove over Elizaveta Pleskan at the No. 4 position. Junior Tiffany Mai, who earned the Titans' only point against conference rival Cal Poly a day earlier, extended her personal winning streak to five-straight singles victories with a 6-3, 6-2, win over Alex Ivanova at the No. 2 spot.

Cal State Fullerton returns to the court with a pair of road matches next week, traveling to CSU Bakersfield on Wednesday (March 7) and Southern California rival LMU on Friday (March 9).
