NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – The Titans were able to pick up four wins this Friday at the Matador Invitational Tournament hosted by CSUN. Petra Such picked up three wins in only one day, singles and doubles combined.
The highlights of the day came from Petra Such who was able to pick her first win since she joined the Titans. Such made it seem easy winning her game in two sets, defeating Katia Betancourt from Azusa Pacific University with a 6-3,6-4 result.
Such was the only Titan winning in singles play this Friday. She will be playing the quarter finals of her bracket in flight E on Saturday morning at 11am PT. Such will be facing against Youngstown State's Elvira Herranz Esteo. If she wins, she will be playing the semi finals of her bracket this Saturday at 3:30pm PT.
The other Titans competing in singles ended up losing in the first round of their bracket but will be looking to bounce back in the consolation bracket. This Saturday's matches are listed below.
Petra Such did not stop at winning her singles game today as she was able to win two doubles game with her teammate Tiani Jadulang. In the Doubles bracket F, Jadulang and Such picked up an easy win early in the morning 6-1 against Taylor and Gawrit. Right after, they were able to get their second win in a quick 6-2 game against Biola's duo of L.Lee and Torres.
Jaduland and Such will be playing the finals of their bracket this Sunday.
Still in doubles, Sarah Nuno paired up with Jadie Acidera to overcome San Jose State's duo of Sendar and Kobayashi. The Titans won in the first round 6-3. Later in the day, they came short against CSUN's team of Van De Vondel and Coetzee in the semi finals of their bracket A.
Nuno and Acidera will be playing again on Sunday for third place in their bracket.
Luxizi Meng and Eira Tobrand teamed up in the doubles bracket B. They could not win against SJSU duo of Culibrk and Malsert with a 6-4 loss. The second game of the day in the consolation bracket saw the Titans losing again in a disputed game with a 7-6 result against Grand Canyon Unversity team of Occhipinti and Buhr.
As doubles play will resume on Sunday, all matches will be listed in tomorrow's release. This Friday's full results and the matches scheduled for this Saturday are listed below.
