The Cal State Fullerton softball team has signed Sheila Holguin to a National Letter of Intent to compete for the Titans beginning in the 2006-07 academic year Head Coach Michelle Gromacki announced on Tuesday.
"We are excited about Sheila becoming a Titan," Gromacki said. "She is an outstanding athlete and will be able to help us anywhere on the field. We look forward to her being able to make an impact for us immediately."
Holguin , a 5-4 third baseman/utility player from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., is currently entering her senior season at Rancho Cucamonga HS where she is a three-time first team All-Baseline League selection and helped lead the school to a 24-4 overall record and league championship as a junior. She ranked third in the league in batting last season at .402, slamming a pair of home runs, driving in 14 runs and scoring 20 times all the while helping lead Rancho Cucamonga HS to a berth in the CIF Division II Semifinals.
She also competes with the Valley Breeze 18U Gold travel ball squad.
Cal State Fullerton opens its 2006 regular season with a pair of games on Feb. 10 against Fresno State and Utah State at the Kajikawa Classic in Phoenix, Ariz., hosted by Arizona State.
