FULLERTON, CA - The Cal State Fullerton softball program has announced that Eliza Crawford, Lauren Mario, and Leesa Harris have signed National Letters of Intent to continue their playing and academic careers with the Titans beginning with the 2011 season.
Crawford (Lakewood, CA/Lakewood HS/Cal Lite) is a 5-7 infielder who is a two-time Moore League MVP and All-CIF Division II First-Teamer who helped the Lancers to a 25-8 overall mark as a junior and at least a share of the league title in all three of her prep seasons.
Last year, Crawford batted .446 in 27 games for Lakewood HS, scoring 22 runs, driving home 28 more, and slugging six home runs. She also hit .437 as a sophomore and .379 with eight home runs as a freshman.
She was named to the Long Beach Press Telegram's Dream Team First Team in her first three prep seasons and was an All-Tournament Team selection at the Michelle Carew Classic as a junior.
"We think Eliza will be an impact player immediately," Head Coach Michelle Gromacki said. "She can hit the long ball and play defense with the best of them. I wish she was here now."
Mario (San Diego, CA/Rancho Bernardo HS/San Diego Power Surge Gold) is a 5-3 infielder who helped the Broncos to the 2009 Palomar League and CIF San Diego Section Division I titles, batting .327 in 34 games with 28 runs scored and 27 RBI. Her 35 hits were second on the team and she hit five doubles, seven triples, and six home runs for a .673 slugging percentage as a junior.
She was named to the All-Palomar League First Team and the All-CIF Second Team last year while also earning a spot on the Michelle Carew Classic All-Tournament Team.
"Lauren is an all around steady athlete. I've seen her play many infield positions and she plays them all well," Gromacki said. "Lauren's work ethic fits with the Titan program. I see her being consistent at this level as well."
Harris (Los Angeles, CA/Westchester HS/Cal Lite) is a 5-3 outfielder who is a three-time All-Western League selection for the Comets as well as a two-time All-CIF selection the past two years. She has helped Westchester HS to a pair of league titles the past two seasons while batting .560 with 30 runs scored as a sophomore and .506 with 29 runs scored as a freshman.
Harris was also selected to the Daily Breeze All-Area Team twice as a sophomore and junior while also setting the school record with 77 stolen bases in 79 attempts.
"When Leesa arrives, we will have one of the fastest outfields we have had in years," Gromacki said. "Our main goal was to increase speed on this team and Leesa's middle name is that, `speed.' Once she's on, she WILL steal."
