FULLERTON, CA - Due to an error by the NCAA and the tournament selection committee the Cal State Fullerton softball team will now open NCAA regional play against host and second-seeded Ohio State in the first round of action this weekend at Buckeye Field in Columbus, Ohio.
It was originally announced during the selection show on Sunday (May 13) that the Titans were the No. 4 seed and would meet top-seeded and No. 16 national seed Virginia Tech in the opener while the host Buckeyes would meet No. 3 Canisius College.
However, the change now bumps the Titans up to the No. 3 seed where they will meet Ohio State in the second game on Friday night (May 18) at approximately 4:30 p.m. PDT. The Golden Griffins and Hokies will meet in the opener at 2:00 p.m. PDT.
"In review of the released Division I softball bracket, the No. 3 and No. 4 teams in the Columbus regional were inadvertently placed," stated committee chair Janna Blais, Senior Woman Administrator at Bowling Green State University in a release issued by the NCAA on Monday morning.
"In order to maintain the integrity of the bracket, the committee decided it was a correctable error thus Canisius and Cal State Fullerton will exchange places in the bracket. On behalf of the committee, we apologize for any inconveniences this may have caused."
A revised bracket can be downloaded and printed out in PDF format by clicking here.
