Baker Named Big West Conference Pitcher of the Week

March 27, 2006

FULLERTON, CA - Cal State Fullerton junior right-hander Candice Baker was named the Big West Conference Pitcher of the Week after helping lead her team to a pair of wins over Big Ten foes last week.

It is the second career weekly honor for Baker, who earned her first pitcher of the week award on Feb. 8 of last season, and it is the second weekly honor for a Titan this season after sophomore Crystal Vieyra was named player of the week back on Feb. 20.

Baker went 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA last week, striking out 10 or more batters for the third straight game in a 6-3 win over No. 16 Northwestern and then holding Ohio State to just four hits two days later. The two opponents hit just .176 against the junior righty on the week as she improved to 13-5 overall on the season.

Fullerton returns to action on Tuesday (March 28) at noon with a doubleheader at Loyola Marymount before opening Big West Conference play this weekend with a three game home series against UC Santa Barbara beginning on Saturday (April 1) and concluding on Sunday (April 2) at noon on both days.
