Baker Takes Home Second National Player of the Week Honor

March 7, 2007

STARKVILLE, MS - Cal State Fullerton senior pitcher Candice Baker has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Player of the Week for the week ending Mar. 4, the association announced Wednesday.

It is the second National Player of the Week honor for the Titans' right-hander, who was honored by USA Softball with its National Player of the Week award on Tuesday.

Baker helped the Titans to a 4-1 record on the week as she posted a 3-0 record that included wins over nationally ranked Stanford and Oregon State.

A two-time NFCA All-West Region performer, Baker tossed her first collegiate no-hitter as the Titans trumped Stanford 1-0. She followed that with 5 2/3 innings of no-hit ball against the Beavers as she led the Titans to another 1-0 win.

Baker allowed just a single run and four hits over 21 innings. She also struck out 20 batters on the weekend as she moved to 3-1 against ranked foes this season.

The win over Oregon State gave Baker her third straight victory and fourth in her last five starts.

The Titans return to the field on Wednesday night (March 7) at 6 p.m. as Fullerton hosts UCLA in its second consecutive mid-week contest at Anderson Family Field.
