CSF Baseball and Softball Coaches to Kick Off Women's Baseball Exhibit on Jan. 24

Jan. 16, 2009

Fullerton, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton Head Coaches Dave Serrano and Michelle Gromacki will be participating in a first pitch ceremony to open the "Line Drives & Lipstick: The Untold Story of Women's Baseball" exhibit on Jan. 24 at the Fullerton Museum Center.

Serrano, a former Titan pitcher, will kick off the exhibit with a pitch to Gromacki, a former Titan catcher.

"Line Drives & Lipstick: The Untold Story of Women's Baseball" documents the forgotten side of America's national pastime with 45 images and 10 objects selected from one of the nation's largest collections of women's baseball memorabilia.

While the 1992 film "A League of Their Own" introduced contemporary audiences to the World War II-era All American Girls Professional Baseball League, woman's baseball actually began with the creation of the Vassar College team in 1866. Women were paid to play ball less than a decade later, and a surprising number of women were included on 20th-century men's teams.

The first pitch ceremony is scheduled to take place outside the museum at 12:30 p.m. and will be followed by a curator's talk and a tour of the exhibit. The event is free to Fullerton Museum Center members and just \$10 for non-members. Kids 13-and-under wearing a baseball or softball uniform will be admitted free.

The exhibit's reception will run from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and will also include a barbeque lunch, drinks, arts and crafts and a bounce house for the kids.

The Fullerton Museum center is located at 301 N. Pomona Ave., just east of Harbor Blvd., on the corner of Pomona Ave. and Wilshire Ave. For more information visit the City of Fullerton's website at cityoffullerton.com, or call (714) 738-6545.
