May 20, 2007
Columbus, OH - Jessica Doucette hit two home runs including a second-inning grand slam Sunday afternoon and Cal State Fullerton (40-17) held on for a 6-5 victory over Ohio State to force a decisive game seven in the NCAA Softball Regional Tournament at Columbus, Ohio.
The teams will meet again at approximately 12:45 p.m. PDT with the winner advancing to meet the winner of the Tucson Regional in the Super Regional.
Doucette's grand slam off the top of the fence in right-center field capped a 5-run inning and her solo blast in the fourth staked Candice Baker to a 6-0 lead. The Buckeyes got a two-run triple in the fourth to pull within 6-2. Brooke Weekley took the circle in the sixth and was tagged for a solo home run. When she gave up a leadoff double in the seventh, the Titans brought Baker back to the circle from her shortstop position.
Lauren Daykin greeted Baker with a 2-run home run to make it 6-5. Liz Caputo then singled to left field but was thrown trying for second by Ashley Van Boxmeer. Baker (20-12) got the next two hitters to preserve her victory and give Ohio State its first home loss of the season.
