SANTA BARBARA, CA - Cal State Fullerton juniors Jessica Doucette and Kiki Munoz each hit home runs while senior right-hander Candice Baker picked up her third victory of the weekend in the circle as the Titans completed a three-game sweep of UC Santa Barbara by the score of 5-0 on Sunday afternoon at Campus Diamond in Santa Barbara, Calif.
The victory improved Fullerton's record to 21-15 overall and 3-0 in league action, posting its third sweep in its last four conference series. The Gauchos fell to 20-11 overall, 0-3 in league play.
Four different players accounted for the Titans' hits on the afternoon with the biggest blows coming off the bats of Doucette and Munoz, who each hit two-run home runs in the second and fifth innings, respectively, to lift the Fullerton offense.
Munoz forced home Fullerton's first run of the game in the first inning, drawing a bases loaded walk - the last of four in a row issued by UCSB starter Jennifer Davis - to give the Titans the 1-0 lead.
After a one-out walk by Baker in the second, Doucette smacked her fifth home run of the season - and her third of the series - to give Fullerton the 3-0 lead.
Munoz added the final blow with her fourth home run of the year three innings later, scoring Ashley Van Boxmeer ahead of her, for the 5-0 Titans advantage.
Baker (13-8) won her fifth consecutive decision after losing her previous five, scattering just four hits and striking out seven in four innings of work. Senior Brooke Weekley came on for the final three innings, allowing just one hit over the final three innings.
Davis (4-8) suffered the loss, allowing five runs on four hits, walking six and striking out six in the complete-game effort.
Cal State Fullerton returns home to Anderson Family Field next weekend (April 6-7), hosting Cal State Northridge in a three game series. Friday night's doubleheader begins at 5 p.m. with Saturday's series finale beginning at noon.
