Box Score

FULLERTON, CA - Visiting Troy University slugged out a combined 24 hits in two games Tuesday night, handing host Cal State Fullerton a pair of losses by the scores of 4-0 and 13-4 at Anderson Family Field.

The defeats dropped the Titans to 6-10 overall on the season while the Trojans improved to 15-6 overall on the year.

Senior K.C. Craddick extended her hitting streak to eight consecutive games in the losses, finishing 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored against the Trojans - one of four Titans with multiple hits on the night. Juniors Nicole Johnson and Morgan LeMond as well as freshman Lauren Mario also joined her in that group.

In the opener, Troy's Ashlyn Williams allowed just two hits and struck out 10 while a pair of Trojans finished with three hits for the game, pacing their team to the 4-0 victory.

Williams (4-3) allowed only seven baserunners for the game, stranding four of those in scoring position, as Craddick was the only Titan able to log a hit on the night, finishing 2-for-3.

Melissa Pratt, who finished 3-for-4 on the night, drove in Troy's first run with an RBI double in the second and the Trojans tacked on three more in the sixth on a pair of errors and an RBI single by Kelly Luquette for the final tallies.

Ari Cervantes (5-5) suffered the loss, allowing the four runs on 12 hits while striking out a season-high nine batters.

In game two, Troy sent 10 batters to the plate and scored four runs in the opening inning to set the tone before breaking open a close game with single runs in three consecutive innings en route to the 13-4 victory.

Nikki Hollett finished 4-for-5 with a home run and four RBI while four other Trojans finished with two hits on the night. Five Fullerton errors contributed to the Titans' struggles as six of the 13 runs were of the unearned variety, including three as part of a six-run seventh inning.

Kacie McAllister's two-run double was the big blow in the first inning, but the Titans clawed their way back to cut the deficit in half on an RBI single by Torrie Anderson in the first and Morgan LeMond's first home run of the season, one of her two hits on the night, to lead-off the second, making it 4-2.

However, RBI singles by Pratt in the fourth and Taylor Smartt in the fifth and a run-scoring error in the sixth made it 7-2 in favor of the Trojans and they never looked back. Hollett and Hayden Gann slugged back-to-back home runs in the seventh and a throwing error allowed two more runs to cross for a 13-2 lead.

Fullerton got two of the runs back in the bottom of the inning as Ashley Carter laced an RBI triple and Nicole Johnson followed with an RBI double before a flyout and strikeout ended the game.

Morgan Grove (6-1) earned the win in relief, allowing two runs on eight hits while striking out three in six innings of work. Haley Hutchins started and faced seven batters, allowing the first two Titan runs on four hits.

Aly Fascetti (1-2) suffered the loss, allowing seven earned on 12 hits, walking six and striking out six in the complete-game effort.

Mario finished 2-for-3 to reach base for the 10th consecutive game while Johnson finished 4-for-4 to lead all Titan hitters.

Cal State Fullerton closes out its seven-game homestand on Friday (March 11) at 6 p.m. with a single game against Utah State at Anderson Family Field as part of the Long Beach Marriott Invitational. The Titans will meet UCLA and BYU on Saturday (March 12) at Mayfair Park in Lakewood, CA to conclude an abbreviated tournament schedule.
