FULLERTON, Calif. – Freshman Paola Villegas was selected for a tryout with the Mexican Junior National Team in December. She will be one of just 40 athletes from across the country to compete at the four-daydf tryout taking place December 13-16 at Grand Terrace High School.
"It would be an honor to represent my country across my chest," explains Villegas. "More than anything, I thank God for giving me the opportunity to be able to compete at this high level."
The freshman infielder had an impressive fall season including a 2-2 performance against Concordia and being a key offensive force in an 8-1 win over Fullerton College on the final day of fall ball.
"Paola is a solid player," says head coach Kelly Ford. "She is 100 percent team first and Team Mexico would be so lucky to have her. She's a first generation college student who has worked so hard to be a Titan. I am proud to coach her and know she will shine in December."
The Sylmar native would become the sixth Titan to play international ball in the last three years after former shortstop Shianne Brannan joined the Canadian National Team last summer.
Villegas and the Titans open up the 2019 season against Idaho State on Thursday, Feb. 7 at Anderson Family Field.
