Softball Signs Three New Recruits for 2020

FULLERTON, Calif. – National Signing Day was last week and the Cal State Fullerton softball team signed four new recruits to join the program for the 2020 season.

"I'm really excited about the versatility and athleticism in this recruiting class," said head coach Kelly Ford. "These athletes will fill our holes really well and will bring our game to the next level."

Makenzie Green is a Fontana native that can play all three spots in the outfield. At Etiwanda High School, she is entering her third year of varsity softball as a .429 career hitter. A left-handed slapper, she sports a .467 on-base percentage with six career stolen bases. She chose to come to Fullerton because it's close to home and she loved how the team treated her with open arms.

"Makenzie brings us a lot of speed, great bat control, and consistently gets on base," says Coach Ford. "She is a very dynamic baserunner that will fit in perfectly to our program."

Jessi Alcala, a Whittier native, is mainly a catcher but can also play the infield as well. The current La Serna Lancer enters her fourth year of varsity ball after being named League MVP last season. She was also named to the All-League First Team in her freshman and sophomore seasons. In her three seasons so far, she's a career .282 hitter with four home runs and 31 RBI. On the defensive end, she hasn't allowed a passed ball or made an error behind the dish since her freshman year. She chose Fullerton because it felt like home and she loved the attitude of all the coaches and players. "CSF was one of my top schools to attend and having an opportunity to be apart of this team is a dream come true," says Alcala.

"Jessica has logged in so many hours behind the plate and is an exceptional talent," explained Coach Ford. "This program has a history of great catchers and she will fit in perfectly to that outstanding history."

Alyssa Hernandez will be coming to Fullerton from La Crescenta, Calif. A utility player for the Crescenta Valley Falcons, she enters her fourth year of varsity softball. She is a co-MVP (junior), two-time All-League and All-Area First Team selection(sophomore and junior), All-League second team selection (freshman), and has hit over.500 all three years of high school. She loved the welcoming atmosphere of the school and the coaches saying the energy and aura Coach Ford brought really made her want to be a Titan.

"Alyssa is a full-package kid that can play anywhere and hit anywhere in the lineup," says Coach Ford. "What really stands out to me is her drive and her determination to chase championships."
