Women's Soccer Pairings Set for This Weekend's Big West Tournament

Oct. 30, 2006

FULLERTON, CA - The Cal State Fullerton women's soccer team has earned the No. 3 seed in this weekend's Big West Conference Tournament and will meet No. 2-seeded UC Santa Barbara in Friday's first semifinal match at 11 a.m. at Long Beach State's George Allen Field.

Host Long Beach State will meet Cal Poly in the tournament's second semifinal beginning 30 minutes after the completion of the Titans-Gauchos contest.

The Titans, who defeated UC Irvine on Sunday (Oct. 29) by a 4-0 count, edged the Mustangs by a single point in the final regular season standings, 13-12. The Gauchos finished tied with the 49ers with 16 points and identical 5-1-1 records to share the Big West Championship, but will be the second seed by virtue of Long Beach State's 1-0 victory over UCSB on Oct. 6.

The 49ers were denied the title outright after losing to UC Riverside on Sunday, 3-0.

Fullerton will be looking to avenge an earlier loss this season to UC Santa Barbara on Oct. 13 as the Gauchos routed the Titans, 4-1, at Titan Stadium. Cal State Fullerton leads the all-time series, 8-5-1. The two schools have never met in the Big West tournament.

The Titans are making their fifth appearance in the Big West tournament, winning their first crown last season with wins over Pacific and UC Riverside. Fullerton is 2-3 all-time in the conference tournament.

UCSB is making its third Big West tournament appearance in the last four seasons and captured a share of the league title for the second time in the last three seasons (the Gauchos shared the title with Cal State Fullerton in 2004).

Tickets are now on sale through the Long Beach State ticket office by calling (562) 985-4949. All-session tickets are priced at \$20 for adults and \$10 for seniors and youth. Single session tickets for Friday's semifinal contests are \$10/\$5.
