Simpson Adds Soccer America Honor to Mantle
Aug. 26, 2008
FULLERTON, CA - Cal State Fullerton sophomore goalkeeper Shannon Simpson added a second weekly honor to her mantle on Tuesday morning, selected as one of 11 players to the Soccer America National Team of the Week.
Simpson, who was named the Big West Conference Player of the Week on Monday, is the first Titan to be named to the magazine's weekly honor roll since Kristen Boujos earned a spot on Nov. 8, 2006, following her conference tournament MVP performance.
Simpson is also the first Fullerton keeper to make the honor roll since Karen Bardsley was named to the team of the week on Sept. 6, 2006.
The sophomore earned her first Soccer America weekly honor after posting her first career shutout against Pepperdine in the Titans' season-opening 1-0 victory. Simpson made four saves, including a stop on Amanda Rupp's penalty kick in the 84th minute that would have tied the match.
