FULLERTON, CA - Former Cal State Fullerton women's soccer players Karen Bardsley and Kandace Wilson have continued to earn honors on the pitch this summer as both have been named Player of the Week for Ajax America in the Women's Premier Soccer League.
Bardsley earned the honor, as well as a spot on the league's team of the week, on June 5 after notching a pair of shutouts over F.C. Sacramento (5-0) and Sonoma County F.C. (3-0).
Wilson shared the league's weekly honor on July 4 after scoring seven times in two matches against the California Storm and Claremont Stars.
Ajax America, which won the 2006 Western Division title and finished third at last year's WPSL Final Four, currently stands atop the Western Conference with an unblemished 13-0 record overall and a league-best 39 points to go with an 11-0 mark in conference play.
The WPSL is a 38-team national women's soccer league with five conferences and is the highest level of women's soccer in the United States while also holding the distinction of being one of the top leagues in the world. The mission is to provide the highest level of women's soccer while simultaneously providing affordable, quality family entertainment and positive role models for our youth.
The 2007 WPSL Final Four will be held this July 28-29 and in this league, the host team does not automatically qualify for the championship tournament.
Representatives from the re-vamped North, Midwest, South, Southwest & West Conferences will fight it out this postseason for the right to claim themselves as the best of the best in the United States. The West and Midwest Conference regular season champions will receive automatic bids, while the East, South and Southwest Conferences will undergo knock-out rounds for the remaining two Final Four berths.
