EXTRA TIME: Meet Freshman Defender Jazzmin Mancilla...

2013 Jazzmin Mancilla As part of a weekly series, FullertonTitans.com will introduce you to some of the new faces on the Cal State Fullerton women's soccer team in a little feature we like to call "Extra Time." This week, we introduce you to freshman defender Jazzmin Mancilla from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. (Los Osos HS).

A four-year letter winner for the Grizzlies, Mancilla helped Los Osos HS to a CIF Division II championship and CIF regional finals appearance as a junior en route to a 25-1-3 record in 2012 and was a second-team All-Area selection by the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin as a senior.

A: When I was searching for a school, I felt that Cal State Fullerton offered me the best chance for an excellent future with opportunities for me to excel both on the field and in the classroom.

A: I crack my ankles, knuckles, toes, and back.

Q: The best advice I have ever received/the worst advice I have ever received is...
A: The best advice I have ever received is to play for the little girl inside that helped me get to the point I am right now. The worst advice I received is to toe poke the ball.

Q: The toughest team I have ever played against...
A: The Texas Sting

Q: The toughest player I have ever faced is...
A: Myself 

Q: The most memorable place I have ever played a soccer match...
A: Washington for the finals of ECNL because there were thousands of different teams, families, and scouts watching the game and it gave me such a rush of energy.

Q: Do you have any unique stories about yourself that set you apart from your teammates?
A: Throughout high school, I took dance and was part of the junior varsity team. I also choreographed two different pieces for a sho as part of a fundamental dance class.

Q: What has been the hardest, most surprising, thing about transitioning from high school to college...
A: The difference in work ethic and accountability. Everyone gets on each other, but always in a positive way that helps improve the overall status of the team. If you mess up, you make sure you get some sort of punishment in (push-ups, etc.) to account for your mistake. Also, living with four other girls has been quite different.

Q: When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up...
A: Ever since I was little, I have always said I wanted to own my own restaurant and become a self-made millionaire. I used to love the idea of eating all the food and making my restaurant my own.

Q: The team I would most like Coach Brown to add to the schedule...
A: Stanford... only because I know they have a large number of very skilled players that would be a tremendous benefit to us if we had a chance to play against them.

Q: If I could play a sport OTHER than soccer, it would be...
A: I would wrestle because it teaches you individuality and to be self-motivated. It brings out your inner strength and shows your will to win. You don't have to rely on anyone but yourself.

Q: In 10 years, I would like to be...
A: In 10 years I would like to have a family and make lots to money to spoil my husband and kids.

Q: If I were stranded on a desert island, and I could only bring one thing, it would be...
A: A boat to float away on.

Q: I would like to switch places for one day with...
A: My boyfriend so I can see how he looks at me and what he thinks of me.

Q: My favorite soccer moment was...
A: Winning CIF and getting the award for sportsmanship in the high school state championship game.

A: "Alright, does anyone have anything else to say? No? Nobody? Okay, moving on..."

A: Channing Tatum -- He can dance for me during dinner... Chris Brown -- he could sing to me at dinner... Bill Gates -- he could pay for my dinner.

A: The ability to have any super power so I'm not limited.
