FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton women's golf released its 2017-18 schedule this week. The Titans begun its season with a second place finish at the Battle at Old Works tournament Sept. 12.
"I am very impressed with the way the team handled their first tournament this season. Each player demonstrated extreme grit which helped us move into second place," said Head Coach Kathryn Hosch. "Overall I'm extremely proud of the team's belief and hunger to keep getting better."
The team will play five tournaments in the fall season with two of them being in Southern California in the Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate out in Palm Desert Sept. 30-Oct. 1 and the UC Irvine Invitational Oct. 30-31 in Santa Ana.
Fullerton's next tournament scheduled is the Washington State Cougar Cup in Pullman, Washington on Sept. 18-19. Last season the team finished in third at the Cougar Cup with Martina Edberg, who has since graduated, taking the top individual spot. Senior Brittany Farrell finished tied for seventh with a total score of 217.
Following the Titans trip to Palm Desert for the Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate in late September they head to Las Cruces, N.M. for the New Mexico State Aggie Invitational Oct. 9-11.
The UC Irvine Invitational rounds out the Titans fall schedule before they start up again in February with the Battle at the Rock tournament in Riverside, Calif. At last year's tournament Fullerton finished in 10th place with Edberg taking second place individually and Pauline Welker tied for third place.
A couple weeks later the Titans head north to the Fresno State Classic on Mar. 5-6. In 2016 Fullerton finished sixth as a team with Edberg once again taking first place.
After the trip to Fresno State, Fullerton goes back north to compete at the Sacramento State Invitational Mar. 19-20 where the Titans finished fifth in 2016. Welker finished tied 10th overall in the tournament last year.
For the final regular season tournament of the year the Titans will head to the islands for the Anuenue Spring Break Classic in Kapalua, Maui, Hawaii.
The Big West Championships are on April 15-17 in Irvine, Calif. The Titans finished fifth at last year conference championships.
"We are very excited about this year's schedule," Hosch said. "It's comprised of several courses that set up well to our strengths, while also providing our team some challenging competition with strong fields. It's a perfect set-up!"
