PALM DESERT, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton finished the first two rounds of play at the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate just three shots back of first place at The Classic Club course hosted by Wyoming in Palm Desert, Calif.
With a 28-over-par 604 after the first and second rounds, Cal State Fullerton finished the first day tied for second with San Francisco – trailing Western Carolina (601; +25).
Tisha Alyn Abrea, September's Big West Golfer of the Month, shot an opening round of 77 (+5) and recorded a score of 73 (+1) in the second round, tying for 12th in the field after two rounds (150) of play.
Junior Seri Lee matched Abrea's performance and is also tied for 12th in the field with a score of 150 (+6) after 36 holes on Saturday. Abrea and Lee are seven shots off the pace of individual leaders, Clariss Guce (143; -1) of Cal State Northridge and Taylor Yoshitake (143; -1) of Cal Poly.
Junior Makayla Mier finished the first two rounds of play tied for 27th (154) with teammate Martina Edberg. Mier finished the first round 3-over-par (75) and the second round seven-over-par (79). Edberg recovered from an opening round score of 80 (+8) to shoot a second round score of 2-over-par (74).
Dakota Brown is currently tied for 28th with an overall score of 155 (+11) after two rounds of action on Saturday.
The Titans are currently leading the contingent of fellow Big West opponents in the field including UC Riverside (T-5th; 611; +35), Hawai'i (T-5th; 611; +35), Cal State Northridge (7th, 613; +37 and Cal Poly (15th, 628, +52).
The Titans return to action on Sunday at the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate for the final round of action.
