FULLERTON, Calif. -- Five states and eight regular season tournament dates await the Cal State Fullerton women's golf team in 2013-14 as fifth-year head coach Pearl Sinn-Bonnani released her schedule for the upcoming campaign on Thursday (Aug. 15).
"We are really excited about the upcoming season," Sinn-Bonnani said. "Our schedule is as strong as it has ever been and we look forward to continuing our climb up the national rankings."
The Titans, coming off a fifth-place finish at the Big West Conference Championships a season ago, will travel the country to compete in Minnesota, Oregon, New Mexico, Texas, and Hawaii, along with three regular season events in California.
The fall schedule includes trips to the Minnesota Invitational (hosted by the University of Minnesota/Minikahda Country Club/Minneapolis, Minn.), the Rose City Collegiate (Portland State/Langdon Farms Golf Club/Aurora, Ore.), the Prices Give 'Em Five (New Mexico State/New Mexico State University Golf Club/Las Cruces, N.M.), and the Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate (Wyoming/The Classic Club/Palm Desert, Calif.).
Two of those tournaments will be return trips from last fall as Fullerton won the Rose City Collegiate in 2012 with a third-round rally from 15 shots down and, later, finished third at the Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate thanks to the lowest final round of the tournament.
Cal State Fullerton's spring schedule, which tees off in February, features three new events beginning with the Jim West Challenge hosted by Texas State at the Bandit Golf Course in New Braunfels, Texas. Other stops include the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational (San Jose State/Almaden Golf & Country Club/San Jose, Calif.), the Anuenue Spring Break Classic (Hawaii/The Bay Course/Kapalua, Hawaii), and The Gold Rush hosted by Long Beach State at the nearby Yorba Linda Country Club in Yorba Linda, Calif.
It will mark the Titans' first trip to the state of Texas since the program was reinstated in 2009-10 and their second jaunt to Hawaii after finishing ninth at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational in 2011-12. Fullerton will be making its third appearance at The Gold Rush, finishing 12th in 2010-11 and eighth last season.
The 2014 Big West Championships will tee-off at the San Luis Obispo Country Club in San Luis Obispo, Calif., for the fourth time in five seasons on April 13-15 followed by the NCAA Regionals on May 8-10 at three sites: Florida State (East), Oklahoma State (Central), and Washington (West). The NCAA Championships will be held on May 20-23 at the Tulsa Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.
Fullerton returns five golfers, including its top three scorers from a season ago in juniors Tisha Alyn Abrea (76.30 scoring average, All-Big West Honorable Mention honors), Seri Lee (76.33 scoring average), and Makayla Mier (78.14 scoring average).
