Titans Hang On to Fourth After Day Two in San Luis Obispo

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- The Cal State Fullerton women's golf team hung tough after 36 holes at the 2013 Big West Conference Women's Golf Championships on Monday, holding on to fourth place after two rounds at the San Luis Obispo Golf and Country Club.

Trailing third-place UC Irvine by just one stroke after the first round, the Anteaters were 13 shots better than the Titans on Monday to solidify its hold on the spot, pulling ahead of Fullerton and closing to within nine shots of second-place Long Beach State. The Titans, who stand at 48-over (632) for the tournament, hold a one-shot lead over fifth-place Cal Poly and stand four shots clear of UC Riverside in sixth.

Three-time defending champion UC Davis extended its lead at 9-over-par for the tournament despite a second-round 304 -- 15 shots worse than its opening-round 289 -- to lead the 49ers by 16 strokes entering Tuesday's final round.

Sophomore Tisha Alyn Abrea made a charge in round two, finishing with a 2-over-par 75 for the round and jumping five spots into a tie for seventh at 6-over-par (152) after 36 holes, seven shots off the lead of UC Davis' Demi Runas, who stands at 1-under (145) for the tournament thus far.

Abrea was the only Titan to break 80 on the day as several Titans took a tumble in the standings.
