FULLLERTON, CA - Cal State Fullerton sophomore forward Toni Thomas was named the Big West Conference women's basketball player of the week on Monday afternoon after helping the Titans to a pair of home court wins over Colorado and Northern Colorado last week.
Thomas, who enters this week's games as the conference's leading scorer at 18.8 points per game, becomes the first Titan player to earn the league's weekly award this season and adds a second career player of the week award to her mantle after winning her first as a freshman on Jan. 16, 2006.
Against the Buffaloes, Thomas matched her career high with 27 points on 8-of-17 shooting while also grabbing nine rebounds and hitting on 10-of-13 from the free throw line.
Two night later against the Bears, Thomas again scored 27 points and tallied her second double-double of the season with 11 rebounds.
For the week, Thomas shot just under 43 percent (18-for-42) from the floor and 85 percent (17-for-20) from the free throw line. She has scored in double figures in all 10 of the Titans' contests this season and in 16 consecutive games dating back to the end of last year.
Thomas has scored 20 points or more in each of her last three games and four times overall this season, giving her eight for her career. Her double-double against Northern Colorado was Thomas' second of the season and the ninth of her career.
Cal State Fullerton returns to the court on Saturday (Dec. 16) at 1 p.m. as the Titans travel to the University of San Diego for a contest against the Toreros.
