Titans Tabbed Fifth in Big West Media Poll

FULLERTON, CA - The Cal State Fullerton women's basketball team was picked to finish fifth in the Big West Conference race in 2010-11 according to a poll of conference media members released on Thursday by the league office.

The Titans received 113 total points to edge out Orange County rival UC Irvine (96 points) for the spot. Defending champion UC Davis was selected to repeat, receiving 16 of the 25 first-place votes and 210 points overall.

Cal Poly was picked to finish second in the league with four first-place votes and 183 points overall, squeaking by UC Riverside, which was picked third with 2 first-place votes and 182 points.

Perennial favorite UC Santa Barbara (three first-place votes, 164 points) was forth, followed by the Titans, Anteaters, Long Beach State (84 points) in seventh, Pacific (51) in eighth, and Cal State Northridge in ninth (42).

Junior Megan Richardson, a first-team All-Big West Conference selection who finished third in the league in scoring a season ago at 15.3 points per game, was also one of six players selected by the media to the league's preseason all-conference squad which also included UC Irvine's Mikah Maly-Karros, UC Davis' Paige Mintun, UC Riverside's Alyssa Morris, defending Big West Player of the Year Kristina Santiago of Cal Poly, and UC Santa Barbara's Mekia Valentine.

Fullerton, which returns four starters and 12 players overall from a season ago, finished 15-17 overall in Head Coach Marcia Foster's first season at the helm while posting an 8-8 mark in conference play to finish sixth in 2009-10.

Aside from Richardson, the Titans also return Big West All-Freshman Team honoree Mya Olivier (5.3 ppg, 4.9 rpg, .512 FG%) and the team's second-leading scorer in senior Lyndsey Grove, who averaged 12.1 ppg and 4.5 rpg while shooting 39 percent from the field and a school single-season record .864 from the free throw line.

The Titans open the 2010-11 campaign with an exhibition on Nov. 6 at 2 p.m. against Point Loma Nazarene before officially opening the regular season on Nov. 12 at Eastern Washington.
