Women's Basketball Adds Guard Pair for 2011-12
May 6, 2011
FULLERTON, CA - Cal State Fullerton head women's basketball coach Marcia Foster augmented her backcourt depth with the signing of a pair of Southern California guards Thursday, bringing the Titans' 2011-12 incoming class to five players.
Chante Miles, a 5-foot-3 point guard from Carson HS, and Tailer Butler, a 5-foot-9 guard from Narbonne HS in Harbor City, CA, have each signed letters of intent to continue their academic and athletic careers at Cal State Fullerton.
The duo joins previously announced signees Chelsea Austin (6-0, G/F, Los Angeles, CA/Beverly Hills HS), Natalie Williams (6-1, F/C, Cerritos, CA/St. Anthony HS), and Jessica Palmer (6-2, F/C, Elverta, CA/Antelope HS). The announcement of their signings can be viewed by clicking here.
"We have signed a tremendously talented class," Foster said. "They are all outstanding student-athletes who have agreed by committing to Cal State Fullerton, to uphold the 'expectation of excellence' in the classroom. They each bring skill sets that will continue to elevate our program as they gain experience at this level. They all come from competitive, successful programs whose foundations are very similar to the tough, blue collar, 'Built Titan Tough' work ethic we embody at Cal State Fullerton."
Miles, who averaged better than 12 points per game in all four of her prep seasons for the Colts, averaged a career-best 6.2 assists per game as a senior to go with 12.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 3.5 steals per contest, leading Carson HS to a second-straight CIF City Section Division I title in 2011 over fellow signee Butler and top-seeded Narbonne HS. Miles also averaged a career-high 14.8 ppg to go with just under six assists per contest as a sophomore and twice earned All-City honors as a junior and senior.
"Chante is a poised, competitive, tough, high basketball IQ point guard," Foster said. "She possesses an uncanny ability to get shooters the ball when and where they need it. Her explosiveness to the rim along with her long-range three ball, will add significant depth and ability to our backcourt. We are excited about Chante's passion for the game and her commitment to the Titan family."
A Cal-Hi Division I All-State selection in 2011, Butler averaged 12.6 points and 5.3 rebounds per game as a senior en route to helping the Gauchos to the City Section championship game, earning All-Marine League and All-City laurels in 2011. Butler is a three-time all-league and all-city selection overall, ranking second on the team in scoring and assists as a senior while leading Narbonne HS with 46 blocks.
"Tailer is a very talented basketball player and a major scoring threat," Foster said. "She has the ability to shoot the three, get to the rim, defend, distribute and rebound. She has tremendous leadership skills and is the ultimate team player. The addition of Tailer to our program is significant. We are very pleased that Tailer has chosen to continue her career as a Titan."
