Pruitt Earns Second Career Big West Player of the Week Honor
Feb. 6, 2006
FULLERTON, CA - Cal State Fullerton senior forward Amber Pruitt was named the Big West Conference women's basketball Player of the Week for the second time in her career on Monday afternoon after helping the Titans open the second round of league play with a pair of victories.
It is the second career honor for the senior, who was also named player of the week during her sophomore season on March 8, 2004. Pruitt's honor is the second for a Titan this season after freshman Toni Thomas earned her first career honor on Jan. 16, 2006.
Pruitt averaged 16.0 points and eight rebounds per game last week in helping Fullerton to a 75-67 win over UC Irvine and a 62-61 upset of league-leading Long Beach State at Titan Gym.
Against the Anteaters, Pruitt scored all of her team-high 18 points in the second half to help Cal State Fullerton rally from a nine-point halftime deficit.
Two days later against the 49ers, Pruitt scored 12 of her 14 points in the second half and tallied her third double-double of the year with 12 rebounds as the Titans held on against Long Beach State. She missed becoming the 15th member of Cal State Fullerton's "1,000-Point Club" by a single point.
Pruitt currently ranks second on the team and seventh in the Big West Conference in scoring at 12.1 ppg. She also ranks seventh in rebounding at 6.2 rpg and fifth in field goal percentage (.440).
The Titans return to action on Thursday (Feb. 9) evening as they travel to UC Riverside for a 5:45 p.m. tip-off.
