Santa Clara Women Shut Down Cal State Fullerton, 88-38

SANTA CLARA, CA - Santa Clara's Chandice Cronk and Elizabeth Doran poured in 19 points apiece to lead two other teammates in double figures and lift the host Broncos to a 88-38 rout of visiting Cal State Fullerton in non-conference women's basketball action on Monday evening.
The Titans lost their ninth straight contest in falling to 1-10 overall while Santa Clara improved to 10-3 overall this season.
Freshman Ashley Richie scored a team-high 15 points off the bench to lead a stagnant Fullerton offense that shot just 26 percent from the floor and scored the fewest points in a game since scoring 36 points in a loss to San Diego on Dec. 16, 2006.
Junior Toni Thomas, who had scored in double figures in each of her last 31 consecutive games following a 29-point effort on Saturday in a one-point loss at Saint Mary's, was held to only eight points for the game while attempting just two field goals in 25 minutes.
Nicole Gall (16 points) and Claire Goins (12 points) joined teammates Cronk and Doran in double figures to lead a Santa Clara offense that shot just over 61 percent from the field and hit 12-of-18 three-point attempts.
Leading by nine points at, 19-10, with 12:09 remaining in the first half, the Broncos took control of the game, outscoring the Titans, 31-10, the rest of the half to take a 50-20 lead into the locker room at the break. Santa Clara would lead by as many as 55 points in the second half at 88-33 with just under four minutes to go.
The Broncos outrebounded the Titans, 36-29, for the game and had 25 assists on 33 made field goals on the night.
Cal State Fullerton continues its season-long five-game roadtrip next weekend with its Big West Conference opener at UC Irvine on Friday night (Jan. 4) at 7 p.m.
