BOZEMAN, MT - The Mavericks' Terra Wallace notched a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead Texas-Arlington to a 61-42 victory over Cal State Fullerton in the third-place game of the Wingate Inn Thanksgiving Classic on Saturday afternoon in Bozeman, Mont.
The loss was the Titans' fifht-straight as they fell to 1-5 overall on the year. UTA improved to 3-2 overall on the year.
Sophomore Toni Thomas again paced the Fullerton offense as she scored a team-high 14 points to go with seven rebounds and three steals. It was the sixth consecutive double-digit performance for Thomas this season and the 12th straight such performance dating back to last season.
No other Titan was in double figures as Cal State Fullerton shot just under 33 percent for the game.
Texas-Arlington opened the game with a 14-4 run, including the first seven points of the game and kept Fullerton off the scoreboard for three-plus minutes until a pair of free throws by senior India McDaniel snapped the skid.
The Titans would get to within four points on a three-pointer by Thomas with 7:12 remaining, but that would be as close as they would get the rest of the game as the Mavericks led by as many as 23 points in the final three minutes of the game en route to the win.
The loss concluded a six-game road trip to open the 2006-07 season as the Titans return home on Tuesday (Nov. 28) to take on Fresno State at 7 p.m. at Titan Gym.
