FULLERTON, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton did not go down without a fight sparking a remarkable fourth quarter comeback, but ultimately came up short falling 53-59 to Long Beach State. It is the third consecutive loss for the Titans as they move to 11-9 (3-4 BWC) for the season.
Three Titans reached double-figures led by Carolyn Gill's 13-point effort to go along with nine rebounds. Amiee Book had 12 points, eight of which came in the second half. Daeja Smith recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Aaryon Green led all scorers with 14 points to go along with 10 rebounds off the bench for Long Beach.
It was a tale of two halves for the Titans as they shot just 20% in the first half including a first quarter in which they did not make a single field goal. In fact, Fullerton went the first 13:41 of the game without a field goal starting the game 0-17 before a Hannah Thompson three ended the drought.
Coming out of the break, Fullerton trailed by 19 points but started to turn things around shooting 33.3% while holding the 49ers to just 29.4%. Entering the fourth and final quarter, the Titans had cut into the lead a bit but still trailed by 16 points.
CSF refused to go down without a fight as they started a comeback against LBSU. Shooting a blistering 50% from the field, the Titans would go on a 13-0 scoring run and eventually make it a one possession game.
Fullerton would ultimately come up short and fall to Long Beach 53-59. They will be back in action on Thursday at UC Riverside for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
