FULLERTON, Calif. – For three quarters Cal State Fullerton women's basketball (8-20, 3-12 BWC) may have played its best game all season. The Titans led UC Davis (24-4, 14-1 BWC) heading into the fourth quarter 46-43 but could not hang on as they fell to the Aggies 67-55 Thursday night at Titan Gym.
Prior to the contest Cal State Fullerton Athletics and the women's basketball program honored senior China Henderson in her final game at Titan Gym. Henderson made her last game on the Fullerton campus a memorable one as she tied her career-high in points with 16 on 6-of-9 shooting while also adding six rebounds.
In the first half Henderson was on fire, only missing one shot from the field, going 6-of-7 to tally 13 points in the first 20 minutes of action.
Center Daeja Smith led the Titans offensively with 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field. Smith also pounded the glass, grabbing 11 rebounds in the game for her 12th double-double of the season which ranks second in the Big West. Four of Smith's 11 rebounds came on the offensive glass.
Point Guard Jade Vega also neared a double-double, finishing the game with 10 points and eight assists.
UC Davis' Morgan Bertsch finished with a game-high 34 points on 14-of-21 shooting. Bertsch also added five rebounds and four blocks in 28 minutes of action.
Following the loss the Titans are now 3-12 in the Big West standings and are one game behind the University of Hawaii in the standings. Fullerton looks to wrap up the regular season with a win Saturday at UC Irvine to lock up a spot in the Big West tournament.
