FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton men's soccer fell to Utah Valley 2-0 in a physical fixture Friday night at Titan Stadium.
Fullerton outplayed Utah Valley throughout the match, earning four corner kicks to the Wolverines one while outshooting them 15 to six including 10 shots in the second half.
Utah Valley's Gui Leme netted the first goal in the 23rd minute to give the Wolverines a 1-0 lead going into the locker room at halftime. Paul Hoffmeister added another goal in the 71st minute of action to extend the lead to 2-0.
Fullerton fought hard all the way until the horn blew with the hopes of a comeback in mind. Rei Dorwart and defensive Corentin Ohlmann had back-to-back shots in the 72nd minute that were just off the mark.
Ross Mcphie, Mark Hernandez and Dorwart all fired three shots in the match with Samuel Goni and freshman Alex Juarez totalling two shots. Both of Juarez's shots were on goal with great scoring opportunities but was unable to finish.
The game started to get physical in the second half, Utah Valley finished the match with 15 fouls and Fullerton earned nine. A total of seven yellow cards were handed out with four of them given to the Wolverines and three to the Titans.
Fullerton now looks to put the loss behind them as they head south to take on San Francisco Sunday at San Diego State in a neutral site matchup.
