Freshman Ryan Tetrault shot an even par 71 Tuesday for a tournament total of 221 to trail teammate Dakota Duerr by only one stroke for team honors as Cal State Fullerton opened its 2011-12 men's golf season with a tie for tenth place in the 14-team Palouse Collegiate Invitational hosted by Washington State.
Tetrult (Villa Park HS) shot 73-77-71= 221, 8 over par for the tourney, while Duerr (72-71-77) came in one stroke better at 220 to tie for 31st place individually. Following were teammates Mark Anguiano and Scott Rubzin at 224 and John San Juan at 225.
Fullerton was in 12th place after the first two rounds.
San Jose State took the team title by 17 strokes at 842 (10 under) ahead of Utah Valley State (859, 7 over) and host Washington State (865, 13 over). The individual titlist was Jarred Bossio of Idaho, who shot an 8-under 205 (65-68-72) and beat Jay Myers of San Jose State by 4 strokes.
Fullerton will be right back in action next Monday at the Kansas Invitational in Lawrence.
