Titans Storm Into Third, Anguiano Runner-Up in Idaho

EAGLE, Idaho -- Senior Mark Anguiano shot a final round 66 to finish second overall and Cal State Fullerton shot the lowest final round of the day to storm up the leader board and finish in a tie for third Tuesday at the 2013 Dash Thomas Memorial Tournament at the BanBury Golf Course in Eagle, Idaho.

Standing in a tie for seventh after the first 36 holes on Monday, the Titans combined to shoot an even-par 284 in the final round to match Seattle University and post their second, top-three finish of the season after ending up second at the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate Tournament in Washington to open the year. Fullerton finished 14 shots off the pace of tournament champion Sacramento State and just two shots behind Idaho for second place.

Utah State's Tanner Higham took home individual honors with an 8-under-par 205 -- just one shot ahead of Anguiano -- shooting back-to-back 67's over the final two rounds and jumping up from fourth place after the first 36 holes.

Anguiano finished with his sixth-consecutive round at par or better to start the season as his 66 on Tuesday is tied for the third-lowest round by a Titan since the program was reinstated in 2009-10, missing out on the record he set earlier this year, and shares with John San Juan's first-round score at the Del Walker Invitational in 2009, by a single stroke. He finished Tuesday with a three-round total of 206 -- the second-lowest individual score since 2009-10 and just two shots shy of his own record set earlier this year in Washington when he tied for third.

He wasn't the only Titan in the top 20 as senior Corey Gard moved up six spots to finish in a tie for 15th with a 2-over-par 215 following a final round 70 (-1).

Ryan Tetrault and Scott Rubzin shot 75 and 73, respectively, over the final 18 holes to finish at 11-over (224) and a tie for 35th while freshman Kyle De Silva rounded out the lineup in a tie for 54th with a 17-over-par 230.

Fullerton takes a break until the end of October when they compete at the Bill Cullum Invitational on Oct. 21-22 at the Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley, Calif.

NOTES: The team total of 865 is the eighth-lowest 54-hole total since the program was reinstated… Fullerton's final round 284 is tied for 11th… Anguiano's second-place finish was the 13th in the top 10 in his career, breaking a tie with Dakota Duerr for the most in school history.
