Anguiano Paces Titans to Seventh After Day One at Dash Thomas Memorial
FULLERTON, Calif. -- Cal State Fullerton senior Mark Anguiano shot back-to-back scores of 70 to finish at 2-under for the day and the Titans finished the first 36 holes in a tie for seventh after day one of the Dash Thomas Memorial Tournament hosted by Boise State at the BanBury Golf Course in Eagle, Idaho, on Monday.
As a team, Fullerton shot an 13-over-par 581 for the first two rounds to match Southern Utah for seventh, both 15 shots off the lead of Sacramento State, which finished with a 2-under-par 566 as a squad after day one. Utah State is four shots back in second and Idaho is third, six shots off the pace.
The Titans were four shots off the lead of Sacramento State and Idaho in a tightly-grouped first round with three individuals in the top 25 and a fourth just a shot back.
Anguiano, who shot a 54-hole school-record 204 in the Titans' first tournament of the year in Washington two weeks ago to finish tied for third, continued his torrid start, shooting his fourth and fifth consecutive rounds at par or better this season on Monday. He stands five shots off the pace of individual leader Ty Travis of Boise State, who ended day one with a 7-under-par 135 with rounds of 67 and 68, one shot ahead of in-state rival Rylee Iacolucci of Idaho.
Senior Corey Gard also posted a top-25 finish after day one, finishing with a 3-over-par 145, rebounding from an opening round 74 to shoot even par over the second 18 holes.
Junior Ryan Tetrault finished in a tie for 33rd with a 7-over 149 and redshirt senior Scott Rubzin ended in a tie for 41st at 9-over (151). Freshman Kyle De Silva rounded out the Fullerton lineup in a tie for 50th with an 11-over-par 153.
Play concludes with the final 18 holes on Tuesday morning at 7 a.m. PT. Results will be available on FullertonTitans.com as soon as they are available.
