FULLERTON, Calif.- Coming off its first Big West Conference Championship last season, the Cal State Fullerton men's golf team returns to the links to defend their conference title in 2013-14, as the schedule was announced Wednesday afternoon by head coach Jason Drotter.
"I am looking forward to this year. We have a strong team with a lot of experience this year," said Drotter.
In the fall, Fullerton will compete at the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate (hosted by Washington State/Pullman, Wash./Palouse Ridge Golf Club), the Dash Thomas Memorial (hosted by Boise State/Boise, Idaho/The Club at Spurwig), the Bill Cullum Invitational (hosted by Cal State Northridge/Simi Valley, Calif./Wood Ranch Golf Club) and the Princeville Intercollegiate (hosted by Hawaii/Princeville, Kauai, Hawaii/Makai Golf Club).
In the spring, the Titans have the Arizona Intercollegiate (hosted by Arizona/Tucson, Ariz./Sewailo Golf Club), Folino Invitational (hosted by Cal State Fullerton/City of Industry, Calif./Industry Hills Golf Club), the Del Walker Intercollegiate (hosted by Long Beach State/Long Beach, Calif./Virginia Country Club), the Desert Shootout (hosted by Kansas State/Goodyear, Ariz./Palm Valley Country Club), the UC Santa Barbara Invitational (hosted by UC Santa Barbara/Santa Barbara, Calif./Sandpiper Golf Club), and the Winchester Classic (hosted by UC Davis and Nevada/Meadow Vista, Calif./Winchester Country Club).
The Big West Conference Championship will be April 27-29 at the Soboba Springs Country Club in San Jacinto, Calif. The NCAA Regionals will be held May 15-17 at six sites: Auburn, Missouri, North Carolina State, Northern Illinois, Oregon, and University Texas San Antonio. The NCAA Championships are May 27 to June 1 at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan.
Fullerton returns four of its golfers that were in the lineup for the 2013 Big West Conference Championships, including senior Mark Anguiano, who earned All-Big West First Team honors. Senior Corey Gard and junior Ryan Tetrault also return after both receiving All-Big West Second Team accolades.
"Although we lost a key player from last year's team (Dakota Duerr), I think we can make up for him this season. My expectations are very high this season and I feel like this team is by far the strongest team we have ever had at CSUF."
