Josh Akognon scored 22 points and Frank Robinson added 21 Friday night to lead Cal State Fullerton to a 92-75 non-conference victory over Cal State Bakersfield in both school's men's basketball opener.
The Roadrunners' Terrence Johns led all players with 26 points and 10 rebounds while Cory Brown and Santwon Latunde added 11 points a piece. The Titans also got double-figure scoring from Marcus Crenshaw (14) and Andrew Green (10) and Robinson led the way on the boards with 9 to go with a game-high 4 steals.
Fullerton hit its first three shots of the game -- two treys by Akognon and one by Robinson -- in the first 78 seconds for a quick 9-0 lead and Bakersfield would get only as close as 5 points the rest of the way. Crenshaw buried a 3-pointer to beat the halftime horn for a 46-35 halftime lead.
The Titans opened the second half with a 10-3 run for a 56-38 lead at 15:11 and the lead never got less than 12 points. Fullerton thrice led by 25 points.
Fullerton hit 12 of 26 3-point tries led by Akognon's 6 for 13 effort. Bakersfield hit 10 of 20 with John making 4 of 7.
Fullerton is home on Sunday afternoon to Cal State Los Angeles while the Roadrunners, playing their first entirely Div. I schedule, are at Saint Mary's on Tuesday night.
