Nov. 2, 2005

Irvine, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton was picked to win the Big West Conference men's basketball championship by both the head coaches and media at the annual Media Day at the Irvine Hilton.

The Titans got 14 of 23 first-place votes from the media to outdistance runnerup Pacific, the defending champion, by 10 points. UC Santa Barbara and Cal State Northridge tied for third with the Gauchos getting two first-place votes and the Matadors one. Long Beach State, UC Irvine, UC Riverside and Cal Poly completed the rankings.

In voting by the head coaches, Fullerton got all available first-place votes (coaches could not vote for their own team). Bob Burton's vote went to runnerup Pacific. UCSB was third, Northridge was fourth, UCI was fifth, Long Beach was sixth, Cal Poly was seventh and UCR was eighth.

Fullerton and UC Irvine each had two players selected to the six-man pre-season all-conference team. Bobby and Jamaal Brown were tabbed from the Titans' roster while UCI got guards Ross Schraeder and Aaron Fitzgerald on the team. The other two players are Pacific's Christian Maraker and Long Beach State's Jibril Hodges.
